Schon seit über 300 Jahren befindet sich unser Weingut in Familienbesitz, gegründet wurde der Betrieb im Jahr 1718. Er gehört somit zu den ältesten Weingütern in Mödling.

1718

Josefine Buchgraber (née Gschmeidler) was the first generation of women. She and her husband Josef Buchgraber, who served in the First World War and became seriously ill afterwards, laid the foundation for the – as we call it – vinophile women’s power.

The couple had two sons, Josef and Karl, both of whom were graduates of the Francisco Josephinum.

Josefine was a very innovative and active woman who was only able to attend a few school classes, which did not prevent her from working as a district farmer during the war years to give – “Canning courses” – to keep food for a longer period of time. She took care of the viticulture with great attention to detail and her husband Josef took care of the small farm with the animals and the cellar.

1938

The son Josef joined his parents’ business and married Maria, his wife (née Hölzl) from Styria, who was a graduate of the Grabnerhof. This marriage resulted in two children, Margarethe and Helmut.

Unfortunately, Josef died at the front in the Second World War in 1941, and with a lot of interest, Maria (2nd generation of women) decided to continue the business with the help of the grandparents. In 1946, Maria dared to buy one of the oldest houses in Mödling (the current company location) despite the numerous tenants who lived there and the damage caused by a bomb during the Second World War.

There she then ran the wine-growing business and invested in a hydraulic wine press very early on.

1965

Her daughter Margarete Pferschy (née Buchgraber) – 3rd generation of women – has significantly expanded the business together with her husband Otto. Vineyards around Mödling were purchased and the wine cellar and the Heurigen restaurant were expanded. This laid the foundation for the company’s current appearance.

Otto – originally from outside the company – contributed a lot in the winery and the heurigen. Margarete has always been an enthusiastic “biologist”. She converted the winery to organic farming very early on, in the early 19th, and is grateful that her daughter Birgit and her grandchildren Anna and Magdalena continue on this path with the same joy.

1993

After completing winemaking school in Klosterneuburg and internships in California and South Africa, winemaker Birgit Pferschy-Seper (4th generation of women) works in the family business in Mödling.

She has been running the winery and the Heurigen for around 20 years. During this period, the cellar technology was updated and the modern sales room and the “Wein im Stock” event room were designed.

Her husband Johannes Seper brings in new ideas with great passion. Everyone is talking about his lively song on the harmonica. Together they have three daughters Anna, Katharina and Magdalena. Anna and Magdalena have decided to continue the family business together, Katharina is pursuing her interests on a different path.

2019

The eldest: Daughter Anna Seper (5th generation of women) has already fully joined the family business. After completing her master’s training, Falstaff named her the most popular young winemaker in Lower Austria in 2022.

With her exciting workshop “Winemaker for 1 Day” she brings interested parties closer to the topic of wine and gives an insight behind the scenes of wine production throughout the year.

Together with her partner Lukas, who is the technical mastermind, they realize their innovative ideas. Their son, Jonas, is currently our youngest member of the family.

2024

The youngest: daughter Magdalena Seper (5th generation of women) graduated at Geisenheim University, where she met her partner, Felix. Both oenologists have brought many innovations to the winery. Whether in the vineyard or the cellar, they constantly introduce new ideas and are the first winemakers in the region to offer dealcoholized wines. They also host various events at the winery and share their journey with you on social media.
