The Merlot originally comes from France, close to Bordeaux, it is a “child” of a Cabernet crossing and the best way to become a star in the Austrian red wine range before Cabernet Sauvignon. The name Merlot comes from the French word „merle“ (English: blackbird) and is intended to indicate the blackbird’s preference for the red grape variety. The name can also be an allusion to the beautiful blue-black color of the berries.
The vineyard for this wine is located right in the heart of the Thermenregion on a very warm site on the Eichkogel, which is perfect for red wines.
After fermentation, our Merlot matures for 9 months in small oak barrels, which provide the complexity and the potential for long storage. After aging in barrique barrel, the Merlot presents itself as a fruity, harmonious and full-bodied red wine, the wood is harmoniously integrated and leaves the beautiful fruit untouched.
